Social Success
Many daughters of narcissistic mothers have difficulties with their social skills.
Our confidence and self-esteem can be so knocked back that we don't think we've anything to offer others. We
feel that we're just not good enough.
We can struggle with knowing how much to talk - we don't want to take over like our Narcissistic Mother, but if
we don't talk enough we might come across as standoffish.
We're scared to make the first move with people - we've had enough rejection already in our lives, thanks very
much.
And somehow, it seems as if everybody in the whole world knows the rules of living, and we don't. They seem to
glide effortlessly through all these social situations while we fumble and are agonised.
Well, the first thing to know is that everybody else doesn't know the rules. Lots of people - lots! - are
finding social stuff difficult. There were just under 50,000 Google searches last month for 'social phobia' and
about 175,000 for 'social anxiety'.
So know that you're not the only one. It's part of the human condition. Not a personality flaw in you.
But still, you, as well as those 225,000 other people, do need to learn good social skills - and here's a good
website I've found to help you with that: http://www.succeedsocially.com/. I'll add other resources as I find them.
